A Black Lady Sketch Show Not Funny
Super meh-morable, I'm sorry to say
I really enjoyed Robin T when she was on Larry Wilmore's show on C. Central. Then I followed her news satire show where she traded in the persona she had with Larry for brash, loud in-your-face black woman persona and that didn't work so well for me. It just comes across as trying way too hard rather than letting the humor do the work. Then came this show and I faithfully watched the first tree episodes and while there are some clever moments, they are too few and far between. To my utter dismay, Robin turned up the 'let's try too hard' knob. Tonight I looked up the imdb page and saw that the show's popularity is taking a steep dive and I was not surprised at all. I also decided to chime in after reading 3 user reviews, one hyper favorable and the other two in a similar vein to mine. The premise sounds so good, I would love to see the shows work and excite me to come back week upon week to see what's what, but some re-thinking needs to happen, and too much Robin T dominating the sketches. if she's gonna stick with that persona, fine, but we need smaller doses. But I think she capable of doing more, much more than persona that has mostly juvenile appeal. Maybe bring on some more writing talent?

I tried my best to support
I wanted to go out of my way & support black sisters but idek wtf is going in this show half the time. It's not even laugh out loud funny it's more "oh wow, cool.." I guess the celebrity appearances are cool. It's entertaining enough but i wouldn't call it a comedy show.

No laughs at all...
I love sketch comedy. And I was all ready support a strong cast of black females...but this fell short majorly. It is not even funny - not at all. I keep watching hoping it gets better but it isnt, it just isnt.

Hi scores from fanboys - ignore
This is unfunny garbage. Predictable, forced, and without any element of surprise. I gave it an open minded try, seeing the 7.2 rating but its not comparable. The weakest Curb Episode is 7.5. This doesn't approach that even remotely.

I don't get it
Some of it is just for shock factor in my opinion. I just don't understand how people would find any of the content in it funny. A lot of the skits I don't really get.

A Tragedy
I have watched enough episodes to conclude that this show is a tragedy. It's lacks humor, and the plots or sketches are poorly developed. There are so, so many social, economical, and political topics affecting black women that she could exploit rather than this superficial crap. I really expected more.

I saw Angela Bassett
I must admit I got excited about this show when I saw Angela Bassett, but I was soon turned off by the boring plots and jokes. I love seeing black women on screen and definitely want to see more, BUT there are far more talented black female writers than Robin Theade, who like Spike Lee, must cast herself in every episode. Thede is simply not funny or innovative. Sorry.

An Unfunny Black Lady Sketch Show
It's shows like this that lead people to say that women aren't funny -- because these women and this show will not make you laugh. Not even once. Sketch comedy is hard and most attempts fail. This one fails miserably. However, because the show stars women of color, you'll see lots of professional critics telling you that it's so funny and so subversive. Maybe making an unfunny sketch show is subversive, but it's wholly unwatchable. If you want to watch some sketch comedy from people of color, Key & Peele, Chapelle's Show and In Living Color are actually funny.

Really unfunny but just laugh or you're gonna lose everything
HBO was a titan of comedy, drama and sports. They've completely sold out to the hyper emotional left. The slogan of this show should be: You better laugh. This show is unequivocally unfunny. The sketches are weak with no structure, weak jokes. I think we're just supposed to be happy and proud or something that the show just exists? Cmon HBO.

A huge unfunny disappointment
I had high hopes for this show but I was very disappointed. The first episode was so so. I decided to give it another try since sometimes pilots aren't a good representation of a show as a whole. I found myself especially bored during the second episode. Sketches are flat out boring. What a disappointment. I like the actresses in other projects and you would think this show would be good given how funny they can all be but there is a lot left to be desired. So boring, dull, unfunny. A complete waste of time. At least I briefly got to see Angela Bassett.

Bring back the Boppers!!!!
Whether a sketch is good or great, these ladies are always a lot of fun. I'm in love with the Boppers sketch. Please find a way to bring them back. There's always one sketch per episode I flat-out adore and the rest are fun. Bring back the Boppers!!

Very disturbing...
I can only imagine what would happen if there were a show called A White Man Sketch Show that excluded all other races. It would instantly be canceled as should this. Its 2022 and we should be way past blatant racism like this.

Complete garbage
The original material is mediocre at best and the rest is so played out by every comedian ever to exist. Whoever approved this beyond Ep.1 should be fired

Insanely funny
WHY did I not hear about this earlier??? I subscribe to HBO and have been definitely missing out. This show is ridiculously funny; the annoying woman had me literally doubled-over from laughing. This is NOT "def comedy jam" or some Wayans spin-off where shock-value replaces humor. This is intelligent, innovative AND above all hilarious.

Like any sketch show, you may not be entertained by all the skits. I find it smart and witty. My kind of humor. Kudos.

Racism and dumbing down women
Why would you support something that makes fun of ignorance in America and makes three black women seem uninformed? Why would you want to watch something that is offensive as stating that white were trying to kill our children. That people cannot think for themselves. Why would this kind of a show still exist today. If it was white people making this show then it would have people up in arms at how unjust this show would be and all three dude that's thrown at various black archetypes.

Hilarious! LOVE IT.
I find this show VERY funny! Hilariously witty. If you're a young black woman/man you are sure to die of laughter. As a 23 year old black woman, I can relate to a lot of the satirical remarks. I feel like this show was made for me and my girls! Big fan of the show!! I'm really offended by those who are grouping this show with the Chapelle show. The concept is completely different. Robin does a wonderful job of highlighting key black women in both mainstream and underground media in a way that they are rarely seen. i.e. Nicole Byer in the same episode as Angela Bassett (who would've thought?) Keep doing your thing Robin!! I hope this show stays on HBO for a while.

As a Black Lady
As a Black lady, I'm extremely glad this show exists because, from the performers to the writers to the crew, there's so much talent. But to be honest with y'all... the writing is still weak. I am excited for the rest of season 2 and I'll keep watching because the cast is so strong, but the writing for sure needs work.
Some sketches are straight-up confusing (for the baby shower one in season 2, it took me forever to understand who was related to who), the subplot about the apocalypse is so drawn-out that it's hard to care about, the pacing of some sketches fizzle out almost immediately, and some sketches rely SO heavily on tired stereotypes that I forget we're in 2021.
I do love the general premise of most of the sketches though, and Robin is such a comedic force. There is so much potential in this show, and I think the show could benefit from taking a wittier, more subtle approach instead of being so heavy-handed.

The Best!
I loved every minute of every episode. I always knew Robin Thede was funny but never knew she was This funny! I'm so sad as I just finished watching the last episode and am hoping hbo will order a new season. What this show reminds me of is the old Stevie TV show with the late great Stevie Ryan. I loved her and that show and never understood why she never got renewed, then she killed herself. Such a waste. So, let's have more of this show and soon! Mad that hbo only bought 6 episodes for quality comedy such as this.
